What is Java?:

Java is a programming Language that is cross-platform. Which means a program written in Java will run on multiple operating systems, inlcuding portable devices. For more information, go to the java web site

Free or Donationware?

The program is free, you can download and use the fully functional program forever, but as the author, Scott Hather has spent years developing it, try it out for a few months or years, and if you like it, and it runs well on your PC, and you find it useful, then please compensate the author by buying some merchandise or making a donation (donation links below).

No donation is TOO SMALL, if you want to donate one US Dollar, thats fine, thank you very much. If you don't like Satscape, or it doesn't work, then please delete it, and try another program.

2 UK Pounds = $US 3.94

6 UK Pounds = $US 11.90

Any Billionaires out there want to donate a  million pounds? CHEERS!

...I could spend much more time developing Satscape if I didn't have to work for a living :-)

Satscape for Java

Whats New?

I started writing Satscape for Java in mid-2007. In 2006 I had a look at Windows Vista and couldn't believe how poor it was. Now I know alot of people like Vista, everyone has different tastes, but the thing I didn't like is that it required a really powerful PC just to run and even more power to do the eye-candy special effects.

Later that month, I tried Ubuntu Linux, which is an alternative to Windows. It will do all the same things only effortlessly, and the eye-candy is just incredible! Anyway, I'm not going to rant about it here, for more info click the "Switch to Linux" tab at the top of the page.

So, as Satscape was for windows only, I started re-writing it in Java, as Java programs will run identically on Windows, Linux and Mac OS give or take a few cosmetic differences between the operating systems.

Satscape for Java is not finished yet, its at the Beta-Test stage, I welcome your bug reports and suggestions. Also note, that the version numbering depicts the date it was released, so Version 7.10.15 means it was released on the 15th of October 2007

Mac OS

Satscape requires Java 1.6 or higher. Unfortunately, it seems apple are lagging behind and only have 1.5 available. According to what I've read, Apple will release Java 1.6 one day, You may be able to run it now using the links below...

Go to the Apple Development site and sign up, which is free, you can then download the preview version of java 1.6 (or java 6.0 in Apple-ish),then you should be able to install Satscape
Thanks to 'Aimdev' for providing information regarding Satscape on the Apple Mac.

Other Operating systems

According to what I've heard and my own testing, it seems to work fine on all flavours of Windows 98 to Vista, it works great on Ubuntu Linux and probably all other "distros" of Linux. It should also run on FreeBSD and Solaris operating systems, but I've been unable to confirm this.
